Southern California Expansion Reflects Aldi’s Nationwide Growth Phase

Germany-based grocer Aldi will open a total of 15 new supermarkets in Southern California this year. The company is in the midst of a nationwide growth spurt expected to expand its footprint from approximately 1,800 supermarkets at present to a total of about 2,500 locations by the end of 2022. At that rate, Aldi would become the third largest supermarket chain in the United States. By the end of 2019, the company expects to open more than 130 new stores nationally while remodeling 235 more.
